Project we Love: Pottery Barn Knock-off Pillow

We came across this pillow from How Does She and instantly fell in love! We almost didn't realize it, but it's by iLoveToCreate blogger Cheri Heaton! Now we know why it's so cool!! Don't you just love the mustard color with the black and white accents on this bed? This pillow was created using our very own Aleene's® Fabric Fusion® Permanent Dry Cleanable Fabric Adhesive. It just goes to show that you don't have to pay the big bucks to make high end accents for your space.

High Voltage Boy Tee

Today I'm going to show you how to make this little "High Voltage" tee that I made for my youngest boy.

I started with a Fashion Graffiti stencil that looked like a chain link fence.  I love this set of stencils.  There's a cool old school car, there's a stencil of headphones, and a whole lot more.  They are are really easy to use.  I taped freezer paper around it so I wouldn't get the whole shirt when I sprayed.

I was also really excited to try the Fashion Graffiti Spray Paint Kit.  It works just like spray paint, but it's not aerosol.  You pump it instead.  For the purposes of this shirt, you could just use the Fabric Spray, but the paint cannon is pretty fun and I'll definitely be experimenting more with it in the future.

So, I set the stencil on the shirt and sprayed.  I moved the stencil to a new location and sprayed again.  I did this until I was happy with the amount of coverage.

 I wanted to make it look like there was a sign hanging on the fence, so I created an image I liked.  Here it is as a jpg.  Feel free to use it if you'd like.

I used this image to create a freezer paper stencil.  If you've never tried this out, click HERE to watch my in-depth tutorial on freezer paper stenciling.  You'll be a pro in no time.  Warning: You might also become an addict as well.

I ironed my stencil onto a scrap piece of white fabric.  I painted the background black and removed the stencil.  To give the letters a shaded look, I took my brush and wiped off most of the paint.  Then I made some messy strokes with it towards the botton of the lettering.

I used the Tulip 3-D Slick paints on this part.  They are a bit thicker, but they cover really well.  I filled in the lightning bolt with yellow.

I took this fabric and ironed on some fusible adhesive.  I cut out the image, but I left a bit of white for edging.

I peeled off the backing, ironed it on, and sewed it on as well just for extra security.

Lastly, I forced my child to model it for me instantly.  I get a bit excited when I finish my project.

That's it.  Now feed him a big piece of chocolate cake and you'll see what high voltage is really all about.

Meet our new ILTC blogger: Cheri Heaton of I Am Momma Hear Me Roar

We are super excited to announce one of our three new bloggers this week! Cheri Heaton of I Am Momma Hear Me Roar is joining our iLoveToCreate blog team starting tomorrow and we are so happy to welcome her! Cheri is an amazing crafter and DIYer. She makes lots of cool projects for her boys Rex and Baden as well as super sweet DIY projects for herself. We think you are going to enjoy her tutorials and inspiration. To get to know her a little bit better, we put together five interview questions along with five random association questions for her to answer. Good times!

1. What do you love to create and do you have a favorite iLoveToCreate product?
I love to create pretty much anything, but especially boy tees, since I have two sons. My favorite product currently is the matte Tulip® Soft Fabric Paint™.

2. What project have you created that you are most proud of?
I recently finished our playroom and that's what I'm most proud of. It features a giant tree with felt apples that can be picked off, a cousin photo wall, a built-in mailbox, and a giant interactive train that has a sliding window that peeks into my craft window.

3. How has being a mom influenced/changed the way you craft?

Motherhood is the most amazing thing I have ever taken part in. It's definitely hard sometimes, but I want to think of it as empowering rather than restricting. I don't want to think of my kids as a ball and chain. I think motherhood provides a billion opportunities to do, to learn, to teach, and to create. It also stretches me in good ways. I am more efficient than ever.

4. How do you balance your time as a mom and have enough time for blogging and personal crafting?
I try to weave my duties together as much as possible. I make things for my boys a lot. I let them help when they can, whether it's letting Rex stuff a pillow or hold a paint brush. (Warning: this can go wrong. I caught Rex dipping a toilet brush into my paint can once. Nasty!)

5. How would you describe your own personal style?
Feminine with a bit of messy, rough messy edges. JCrew meets Roxy? I love wearing dresses and I love wearing jeans and sneakers.



RANDOM ASSOCIATION TIME!!
1. Cake or Pie? I will gladly take whichever has chocolate. Chocolate French Silk pie or a Chocolate Layer Cake.

2. Going to the Movies or Renting a Video? Renting. I have two little boys who can't sit through a whole movie yet. Although, I do love the theater's nasty popcorn.

3. Hats or Headbands? I have a little headband business, so I'd better pick headbands.

4. Disney or Nickelodeon? Phineas and Ferb all the way baby. I hate Sponge Bob.

5. Singing on Stage or Singing in the Shower? Either one, but if it involves dancing as well then I pick the shower.
