DIY Bracelets

A girl can never have too many bracelets! 

Last week I led a bracelet-decorating craft for some kids and the whole time, all I could think about was getting home so I could make my own! Here are three ideas I came up with. I think this is a really fun idea to do with your girlfriends or cousins. Just put out a bunch of bracelets and all kinds of Aleene's glues and lots of beads, ribbons, markers, gems and stuff like that. Have everyone design their own bracelet!

How To Decorate A Summer Hat!

It's summertime! That means bring your summer fashion game. It also means protecting yourself from the harsh sun rays. That doesn't mean you can't do in style! 

Here's an easy diy on how to decorate your summer hat! With this project, you can make several decorated ribbon bands to go around your hat, giving it different looks whenever you want!

 

SUPPLIES:

• Aleene's Tacky Dot Rolls
• Tulip Fashion Glitter Shimmer Sheets
• Ribbon
• Measuring Tape
• A Hat!

 First, measure your hat, then cut your ribbon according to size. Make sure to cut your ends with pinking shears!

Shimmer sheet: Place it glue side up on the ironing board and set your ribbon on top. Use a pressing cloth to carefully iron it in place. Cut off the extra. Repeat for the rest of the length of the ribbon.

 

For the gems, put the Tacky Dots   on the back of the gems, then simply place them on the ribbon! After this, place a tacky dot on the back of your hat to connect the ribbon. I used one, but for security you can place them around the hat.

 

Other ideas - Use Puffy Paint, paint or stencils and glitter!

DIY Summertime Swirly Shoes

 

Hey everyone! It's SUMMERTIME! YAAAAAY! I found these cute kicks on clearance at Target for five bucks. (Score!) I LOVE the color, but since it's summertime I thought I'd make them pop even more by adding yarn swirls and gems. 

– Shoes
– Yarn
– Fabric Fusion
– Gem
– Cold Glass of lemonade (recommended!)

 Squeeze a quarter sized amount on to shoe. Pinch the end of yarn and apply it to the shoe. Next, simply wrap around in a spiral/swirl. Repeat until you get the look you want. I like the different sizes of circles that I ended up with!

Now add a little drop of glue in the center of each swirl and add a gem. You can do the matchy-matchy thing or add some contrast like I did.

I love my new shoes, they are so cute and are great for the beach or pool side parties! Now, where is that glass of lemonade??

HOW TO: Make a Boyfriend Pillow

Hey guys! Have you ever heard of a boyfriend pillow? It looks like this:

It's a pillow with the torso and arm of a male, made to be a perfect cuddle pillow. Some people might get freaked out from this, but ever since they showed it on GLEE, I've heard all my friends talking about it, and some even buying them. They retail for 40 bucks. 40?! For a pillow?! That's insane! So, I decided to make my own, since I LOVE pillows. Also...because it looks fun! :)

SUPPLIES:

-Flannel Long Sleeved Shirt

-Aleene's Fabric Fusion 

-Aleene's Fabric Fusion Tape

-Pinking Shears

- Clothespins

- Pillow stuffing (FiberFill)

Directions:

1. Set your flannel shirt out flat on a table. For a bigger pillow, make sure to get an XXL shirt! Button up the shirt.

2. Draw a chalk line next to the buttons, then cut all along that line.

3. Fold in the raw edges, use Aleene's Fabric Fusion Tape along the edges and fold over to seal the hem.

4. Add a thick line of Fabric Fusion along the edge and press the two sides in place and use clothespins to hold in place until the glue dries. Also glue the neck area and in between the buttons.

5. Stuff your pillow! Add a little less in the arm so you can bend it around you when you sleep!

5. Glue the bottom hem with Fabric Fusion.

Optional: Add a hand made of felt or fabric!

Now go cuddle!

CINCO CHIC: Mariachi-Inspired Jeans!

Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner and if you're like me, (underage, although I probably wouldn't drink..I'd eat tacos), it's a great time to celebrate all things south-of-the-border. I was just in Mexico a couple weeks ago and loved watching the mariachis perform, I especially love their outlandish outfits. I came across this picture and loved the fashionable twist. I decided to make my own version!

Supplies:

Jeans, preferably black

White pompom fringe

Aleene's® Fabric Fusion®

Tulip® 3D Fashion Paint, white

Measure out how much trim you'll need to go down the length of your leg, don't forget you'll need a strip for both legs!

Add a line of glue down the length of the outer pant seam and place the trim in place. Use clothespins to hold it while the glue dries.

This is when I called in my dad to help! Use the Tulip 3D paint to add mariachi-style swirls around the pockets and seams! Be outlandish, it's Cinco de Mayo!

DIY Spring Ombre Blouse!

Hey guys! It's finally spring time!!! (Yaaaaaaaay! *awkward dance*) I was shopping around and saw ombre EVERYTHING. I conveniently had a blouse that needed a stain covered up (darn you sketti red sauce!!!) So I decided to ombre my blouse!

SUPPLIES:

•  Tulip One-Step Tie Dye (Purple)
• Brush
• Bowl of water
• Garbage bag

  First, make sure you cover up your surface with a garbage bag and your hands with gloves! Tie Dye is not very friendly! Next, generously squeeze the dye on the bottom of the damp shirt. (This is going to be the darkest part) If you want it darker, Black dye at the bottom should do the trick!

Next, dip the brush in the water and spread the dye up. Do this each time so it gradually looks lighter.

After this, lay the garbage bag down and hang your shirt to dry. If you just leave it flat, the color will start to crawl up!

 

How To Stud Your Flats!

These are my "Tell me about it, STUD." Flats. (Clever, right?) I LOVE me some black flats, but what do you do when they get scruffed up? STUD THEM! This is a QUICK and EASY project using Liquid Fusion! Here we go!

 Supplies:

• Studs (7mm)
• Liquid Fusion
• Flats
• Sand Paper
• Bamboo Stick

 Step One: I lightly sanded my shoes in the area I wanted to glue. Next, pour some glue into a paint tray, and with a bamboo stick, apply glue on to the back of stud.

 Step Two: Place stud on to your shoe. If you're unsure of a pattern, google "Studded Flats" and you'll find some ideas! For this project I did sort of a triangle, top row=6, middle=5, and bottom=4. Play around with it!

Step Three: Wait for about an hour for them to dry. After that, wear those babies out!

I also made a headband! does it match my pink streaks? So punk, right? :)

Happy Go Lucky Shamrock Jewelry Set!

March is my birthday month and I'm happy that it is also St. patrick's Day - maybe it will bring me good luck! To try and tilt the odds in my favor, I made my very own four leaf clover jewelry set that I'm calling the "Happy Go Lucky" set. Either way, I want to live my life in a happy way, but I welcome all the luck I can, lol.

We have a big box of leather scraps in the garage and that's what I used to make these pieces. I wanted something heavier than paper, but lighter than clay and I I didn't have time to sit and wait for airdry clay, etc. Plus, it was cool to work with a different material. It takes a bit of getting used to but I really liked it!

OK, let's do this!

SUPPLIES: You'll have to do an image search for "shamrock outline" and print off the shape in different sizes.

- Leather (thinner is better, easier to cut!).

- Sharp scissors or craft knife.

- Bowl of water.

- Tulip Soft Paint, green.

- Tulip Shimmer Paint, green.

- Gems or buttons to go in the center of the shamrock.

- Fast Grab Tacky Glue.

- Jump rings, earring hooks, necklace chain, needle nose pliers.

Transfer the design to the leather using carbon paper or just cut out the shape and trace.

Cut around the shape.

Place in water to soak, about five minutes (until leather is soft). Cut out the shapes, and bend the leaves up to look like a real shamrock, let the pieces dry completely. you can tell because they will go from dark brown to light brown. You can set them in direct sunlight or use a heat gun to speed up the process. They'll dry in the way that you shaped them!

Use the Fast Grab to attach the jump rings to the back. It's super thick so the rings will stay in place as you paint the rest of the piece. Paint the front and back with the Soft Paint. Let everything dry.

This is my favorite part, add the Shimmer paint. You have to add a few coats and you have to let them dry in between. You could always apply loose glitter but I didn't want any loose glitter flakes to get on my skin. Use the glue to add a button or gem in the center.

Or you can use Puffy Paint...

Add the jewelry hardware and you're all done!

MAYA IN THE MOMENT: DIY Crystal Phone Charger!

I've been in a sparkly mood lately and have been gluing Tulip Glam It Up Crystals on just about everything! Not only my iPhone case and headphones, but now even my charger. Think I'm crazy? Check out "crystal phone charger" on Etsy, Pinterest and eBay and you'll see from the listings that I'm not the only one. People are charging big bucks for these and now I'm going to show you how to do it on the cheap!

Side note - yes, I blinged my headphones too. Don't judge!

Aside from your charger, you'll need Aleene's Tacky Glue but you can also use Liquid Fusion. You'll also need Tulip Glam It Up Crystals in your choice of color, a toothpick and a paper plate to squeeze the glue onto.

Use your toothpick to add a layer of glue to one side of the charger. Next, spread out your crystals. Use a crayon or Tulip® Glam-It-Up!™ Fashion Art Tweezers™ to pick up and apply each one. NOTE: The mini size of crystals works best!

Apply your crystals one-by-one.

 

You can decide what pattern you like - flowers, ribbons, circles or just all random and mixed up like the one I made.

I also did the other end of the charger too.

Done! I love it, it makes me feel so Hollywood. Like, if I happened to be walking the red carpet and needed to charge my phone, I could whip this out and still feel glamorous!
