Hazel Pearson (left) and Aleene Jackson (right), December 2010.
at Inspired At Home had the sweetest blog post last month that will inspire crafters of all ages! In the above photo, you'll see Aleene Jackson (inventor of Tacky  Glue!) and her longtime crafty friend and colleague, Hazel Pearson.

Back in the 1940s, both of these women were enterprising craftypreneurs. Cathy of California even blogged about Hazel. You can read about Aleene's history here.

Sixty-some years later, their friendship still stands strong! In Heidi's blog post, she wrote about how Hazel, 96, organizes a care package program with her church. For the past 11 years, Hazel has helped gather thousands of shoeboxes for children in the Philippines. But not to decorate, or at least not in the way you'd think. Her "embellishment" goes inside each package and consists of toys, school supplies, socks, and most important - craft supplies, plus all sorts of other items that any child would love and need.

John Howard works to fill the boxes with goodies for the kiddos! The letter is from Hazel!
Hazel's local newspaper spotlighted her for her efforts!
Hazel and Aleene are proof that having a crafty heart transcends all time. They are among the crafty pioneers and they continue to inspire us. They show us that we can grow older, but one thing always stays the same - we make and do crafty things to share the love of creativity!

If you would like to donate items for Hazel's shoeboxes contact Heidi or Tiffany, they will connect you!
