Frida Kahlo Tote Wall Lamp

Friday, September 10, 2010
Every year during the Crafty Chica cruise, I shop in Mexico for all kinds of goodies. No matter what, I always come home with a stack of plastic totes. Here's a way to turn them into a fun wall lamp!

Supplies:
1 large Mexican grocery tote
1 wood frame, 16 inches x 16 inches
1 piece of white art paper, about 14 inches x14 inches
Scissors
Staple gun
Ribbon
Sequin trim
Liquid Fusion adhesive
Hot-glue gun
Battery-operated lights
Tulip 3D Glitter Fashion Paint, black
Tulip Soft Paints
Crafty Chica™ Chunky Glitters™

Cut the top off the tote, and then one panel of the tote.
Staple to the front of a wood frame.
Outline with Tulip 3D Fashion Paint.
Paint with Tulip Soft Paints, add glitter while glue is still wet. Let dry and then hot glue the white paper behind the image on the other side. Add sequin trim to accent the edges.
Hot glue battery-operated light strand inside against the wood.

Craft on! Click here for today's daily giveaway!

Loungy Lanterns

Friday, July 16, 2010

Lanterns are like sugar cookies. It should be a crime if they are left undecorated! Pick up a group of them and decorate them with different textures. All you need is glitter, tissue paper, yarn (you need white craft glue for that) and even paint drippings, which I covered with glitter. you can add crystals, foreign newsprint, stickers, etc...

Yarn-covered: Foam brush, Aleene's Original Tacky Glue and interesting multi-strand yarn. Work in three sections - top, middle and bottom. Coat the first section with the glue and wrap the yarn around. Kepp moving down. Because there will still be areas of wet glue, you can wrap the yarn diagonal too. To end it, simply hold your finger over the cut end in an area of wet glue (preferably on the bottom).

Glitter-covered: Foam brush, Collage Pauge Instant Decoupage, Crafty Chica glitters: Same thing, work section by section with the decoupge medium and glitter. Make sure to work over large paper so you can catch the overflow!

Tissue-paper: Foam brush, gift tissue, Collage Pauge Instant Decoupage Sparkles: Coat with medium, apply tissue paper where desired. I used the sparkles medium for extra twinkle power!

Paint/glitter-drip: Crafty Chica paints, Crafty Chica glitters: Pour the paint over the lantern and roll it around so it drips. While it is still wet, pour loose glitter over it. Hang to dry.

Mailbox Makeover

Thursday, June 10, 2010

Life is too short to have a boring mailbox. I'm not saying to glue plastic flamingos all over it with flashing lights (although that would be really cool!), but a little decoration wouldn't hurt! The key to this project is to use Aleene's® Spray Acrylic Sealer™ to seal everything in!

If you don't want to use it as a traditional mailbox, you can set it in your garden or art room to use for storage.

- Metal mailbox
-Collage Pauge® Instant Decoupage
- Wrapping or art paper
- Aleene's® Spray Acrylic Sealer™
- Crafty Chica® Little Chica Paint Packs™
- Tulip® Cordless Heat Setting Tool™
- Tulip® Glam-It-Up!™ Iron-On Crystals™
- Spray paint
