Wee Weenie Dog Outfits

Friday, May 13, 2011

Remember a few weeks ago when I told you about the Buda Weenie Dog Races? At the time I was questioning whether or not I had the time to pull together matching weenie outfits for the kids. Never one to let an occasion to dress in theme pass my by I made weenie outfit magic happen. Got a pair of kids and a love of dachshund? If you answered yes, today's I Love to Create post was made for you.

SUPPLIES
Cotton Fabric
Ribbon
Yellow Onesie
Yellow T-shirt
Aleene's Fabric Fusion Glue
Sewing Machine
Silhouette of a Weenie Dog
Thread
Aleene's Tack It Over and Over

Using the silhouette of the weenie dog I printed out I traced it onto cotton fabric. I cut the weenie dog out and cut it in half. Using Aleene's Tack It Over and Over half of the dog went on the onesie and the other on the T-shirt. I then stitched the dog halves onto the shirt and onesie.

Using Fabric Fusion Glue and ribbon I made Tallulah's side of the shirt a little more feminine with a few bows.

The trickiest part of this otherwise super easy project was getting a picture of my kids side by side so you got the effect. I knew and they looked cute and that is all that matters to me.

I also had to share an amazing pair of handmade weenie dog earrings I spotted at the races. Pretty much the second cutest crafty thing there.

Personalized Placemats

Thursday, March 24, 2011

Recently when I was invited to my friend's house warming party, I knew I could not show up empty handed. The couple already had a fully functioning house with all the staples, but I followed my instincts that they were without a set of personalized place mats. Good thing I did because they were smitten on the place mats and it was a gift that no one else brought them.

SUPPLIES
Ready Made Place Mats
Embroidery Floss
Computer Program (such as Picnic) to covert photos into line drawings
Tulip Fabric Markers
Fabric
Embroidery Needle
Aleene's Tack It Over and Over
Iron On Interfacing
Pen
Carbon Paper
Photographs

Because I can never say no to the random kitschy junk I find at the thrift store I already had some groovy vintage quilted place mats in my stash. I had been saving them for a special day and a house warming for one of my oldest and dearest friends qualified. You can find place mats at Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, World Market - or sew your own.

Next I needed to get portraits of the new home owners. I snagged pictures from their Facebook pages and ran them through a Picnic program to make them into line drawings.

Once I had line drawings to follow I traced the basic outline of their faces onto a piece of cotton cloth using carbon paper and a pen.

After my drawing was complete I went back in with Tulip and Crafty Chica Fabric Markers and did a little augmenting.

I needed to attach my fabric to my place mats so I started by using some iron on interface to stiffen my drawing and also set my fabric markers. Then using Aleene's Tack It Over and Over I glued the portraits to the place mats.

I also added a little banner that read "Home is Where Cory is" and "Home is Where Tom is". I used a Sublime Stitching iron on embroidery pattern for the banner.

Once everything was tacked to the placemat I went through and did a bit of embroidery to add a touch of fancy to the place mats and give them a more of a mixed media feel.

The new home owners seemed pleased as punch with their new place mats, hooray!

El Tigre T-Shirt Applique

Thursday, March 18, 2010

Two of my favorite things are tigers and hoodies, so today's I Love to Create project is about combining forces with the two of them. What was once an old T-shirt headed for Goodwill is now a fancy applique on my brand new hoodie.

SUPPLIES
T-shirt with a design
Hoodie
Tulip Fashion Graffiti Stencil
Tulip Soft Fabric Paint
Sponge Brush
Embroidery Supplies
Tulip Fashion Graffiti Dimensional Paint Taggers
Steam a Seam
Scissors
Iron
Tulip Fashion Graffiti Big Phat Markers

OLD T-SHIRTS ARE NEW AGAIN
I have so many T-shirts in my closet that either no longer fit me, have been stained or somehow managed to get holes in them. The graphics on these shirts are still as cute as when i bought them, they just need to be transfered onto something else. Like a hoodie for example, but there is nothing that says I could use these T-shirt appliques on another T-shirt, tote bag, you name it!

RAINBOW TIGER
I used a combination of Tulip Big Phat Markers and Tulip Paint Taggers to color my tiger. I was inspired by the screen printing of 1Aeon.

APPLIQUE
Once the tiger's paint had dried I cut him out using scissors. I used Steam a Seam and an iron to adhere him to the back of my hoodie. I decided the El Tigre needed a little something extra, like a crown.

STENCIL
Using a Tulip Fashion Graffiti stencil I placed the crown on my tiger. I used a sponge brush and Tulip Soft Fabric paint in black to add the crown. I allowed the stencil to dry completely.

EL TIGRE IS CROWNED
My hoodie was looking better with every step. My old T-shirt has already gone on to a better place. I could have stopped here, but I thought it might be nice to augment my crown a bit.

EMBROIDERY TIME
To give my hoodie a little something extra, not to mention hold my applique in place I decided to embroider the whole thing. I went around the edge of my tiger and accented the crown.

FROM T-SHIRT TO APPLIQUE
I heart my new hoodie and am so glad I did not have to part with my beloved Tiger T-shirt. I have several of Tallulah's onesies that she has either stained or outgrown that I plan on converting into appliques to adorn a whole new summer wardrobe with. You get way more bang for your clothes buying buck this way, not to mention it was pretty dang fun!

Multi-Tasking Mama inspired by Crafty Chica!

Wednesday, May 13, 2009
Check out these super cute shirts and hat that Multi-Tasking Mama made with the kids! It's such an easy craft project and it looks like the kids had a blast making their creations! We love to see families crafting together and sharing their finished projects that they make with our products!
Love these awesome photos of the kids in action! Looks like they are in serious concentration mode!

They created these projects using Crafty Chica™ DIY Appliques™ Value Pack. They didn't use our paint, but we totally recommend Tulip® Soft Fabric Paint™ for your fabric projects, because it is machine-washable and covers beautifully. It is highly opaque yet extremely soft to the touch, making it the perfect choice!

If you have a craft project using Duncan, Aleene's®, Crafty Chica™, or Tulip® products, please share it with us. Send your submission to ilovetocreateblog@yahoo.com and you may be featured on our blog or in one of our future Crafty Roundups!
