Tie-Dye Macrame Bracelets

Friday, March 29, 2013

When you work for a company that makes and sells fabric dye, you can't help but stop for anything cotton, rayon, hemp...you get the idea. The other day I came across a brand new package of cotton cording and the first thing that crossed my mind was - "I want to dye that!" Not only did I dye the entire package, but I also cranked out a collection of macrame bracelets! Here's how I did it!

Supplies:
Cotton cording
Cut the cord into equal parts so you  have about five-six piles. Wet the cords either by running under water or with a spray bottle. Line your work area with a plastic covering. Set the piles down and add dye.

Cover the wet cording with another plastic and let set for six hours. Wash under cool water to remove excess dye. Tie the bundle with rubberbands and run through the washer, and then the dryer. The ends will be frayed, but just snip those off!

Do you know how to macrame? You'll need a clipboard, blue painter's tape and scissors and little bit of duct tape. Cut apiece of cord that measures 24" long. Fold it in half and place the loop end under the clip on the clipboard. Tape the two ends down to the bottom of the clipboard. Now cut another piece of cord that measures about 30". Slip it under the two cords, bring the ends up so they meet and tie a knot at the top. Take the left cord and create an L across the two straight cords, then take the right cord, place it down and then under the two cords and up through the opening of the left cord.

TIP: You'll end up with four long strands at the end of the bracelet. The ones connected to the knots, you'll want to glue those ands then snip them. Coat the ends with more glue to seal them, or you can use decorative duct tape. The other two, you'll use those to tie on the bracet. Tie one through the lopp and knot it.

MAYA IN THE MOMENT TEEN CRAFT: Easy Zipper Bracelets

Wednesday, January 2, 2013

I've been wanting to try and make zipper bracelets since, like, forever. I went to a local fabric supply store in town and bought a whole bag of remnant zippers.

When you buy zippers for this project, you really want the ZIPPER part to show so look for zipper that have chunky gold or silver teeth, as opposed to the boring ones that are painted the same color as the fabric.

For the bracelets I made, I opened them and cut them right above the zipper handle. These are going to be my bracelet bases. Cut to fit your wrist.

Now it's time to load up on all kinds of iLovetoCreate products to embellish your bracelets. I used:

Aleene's® Fabric Fusion® Peel & Stick Tape™ to apply ribbon.

 Gotta  have Puffy Paint!

When they are done, they'll look like this. I really love bright colors so I used a lot of contrast in my bracelets. Now it's time to make them wearable!

Snip off a piece of Aleene's® Hook & Loop Tape™ and affix to each end.

Here they are, my finished bracelets. It was cold outside, so my Puffy Paint one is still drying, I'm excited to wear it too!

This was a really fun project, I plan to make a lot more for my friends! Hey, if you like this project, you might like my other bracelet idea too! Stiffened Embroidery Floss Friendship Bracelets.

Stamped Sequin Fabric Bangles

Friday, December 4, 2009

I bought a hecka lotta bracelets at Target's Dollar Spot last week. Sequin bangles for a buck each? I scooped up six! I knew I wanted to transform them, but I didn't know how. I set them aside until an idea popped in my noggin. Rubber stamps! Crafty Chica™ Tango Permanent Fabric Markers™ !

Here is how I did it:

1. Admire the bracelet in its naked form. OK, done with that, time to add some crafty love!

2. Using permanent stamp ink, ink your stamp and press firmly and roll it over the bracelet. Repeat until it is entirely covered.

3. Let it dry a few minutes and then fill in with Crafty Chica™ Tango Permanent Fabric Markers™ !

Check out this awesome cuff bracelet that Lauren, one of our new product development managers created! Isn't it awesome? She created it using some strips of leather sewn together along with Tulip® Soft Fabric Paint and super sparkly Tulip® Glam-It-Up™ Iron-on Crystals™.
Her finished project turned out super high-end, like something you would get in a boutique!

Here she is modeling her creation. Great job Lauren!
