MAYA IN THE MOMENT: DIY Crystal Phone Charger!

Wednesday, February 6, 2013
I've been in a sparkly mood lately and have been gluing Tulip Glam It Up Crystals on just about everything! Not only my iPhone case and headphones, but now even my charger. Think I'm crazy? Check out "crystal phone charger" on Etsy, Pinterest and eBay and you'll see from the listings that I'm not the only one. People are charging big bucks for these and now I'm going to show you how to do it on the cheap!

Side note - yes, I blinged my headphones too. Don't judge!
Aside from your charger, you'll need Aleene's Tacky Glue but you can also use Liquid Fusion. You'll also need Tulip Glam It Up Crystals in your choice of color, a toothpick and a paper plate to squeeze the glue onto.

Use your toothpick to add a layer of glue to one side of the charger. Next, spread out your crystals. Use a crayon or Tulip® Glam-It-Up!™ Fashion Art Tweezers™ to pick up and apply each one. NOTE: The mini size of crystals works best!
Apply your crystals one-by-one.
You can decide what pattern you like - flowers, ribbons, circles or just all random and mixed up like the one I made.

Halfway finished!

I also did the other end of the charger too.
Done! I love it, it makes me feel so Hollywood. Like, if I happened to be walking the red carpet and needed to charge my phone, I could whip this out and still feel glamorous!

Homemade Valentine Cards

Tuesday, February 5, 2013
While it's texting and emailing is nice and convenient, there is still something fun about handwritten "real" letters and cards.  I think its just means more.  Here are a couple of easy, fun valentine cards you can make.

Fot this first one I printed off a picture of a jar and added text to it.  You could even use Word to do that.  You don't really need any fancy software.

Then I used a glitter pen I had to outline the jar in a sketchy kind of way.  I got my Tulip Beads in a Bottle to make the hearts to fill the jar.

The heart shape is easy to make.  It's basically like drawing a "V" as you squirt out the paint.  I love the 3D texture it gives the card.

For this second card I got out some buttons.

I used Aleene's Tacky dots to attach the buttons to the card.

Then I wrote some words along the edges of the heart to outline it a bit.

And that's it - two easy, fun valentine cards.

I think both would make great framed prints for decor as well.

DIY Valentine's Gift Box

Monday, February 4, 2013

I am really feeling the love for Valentine's DIY this year.  This DIY Valentine's Gift Box is a quick and easy way to personalize a gift for someone you love.  The idea is to write 365 reasons why you love them and tuck them into this pretty little box.  Then they can pull out a reason every day to remind them that they're loved.

Yup, I'm corny like that.  How about you?

If you just aren't that into writing 365 actual reasons why, you can just let the box speak for itself and tell them that you love them every day of the year.  Tuck in a little decoupaged jewelry for fun!  I have the tutorial for the jewelry over on The Impatient Crafter blog.  You can get the 411 on the DIY box here.

You'll need a small kraft paper heart shaped box and some layered Valentine's themed napkins, pull off the top layer and use that.  These were tissue paper, I got them at Michaels.  Decoupage the lid with and the sides of the bottom with the paper and Collage Pauge matte.

Use scissors to cut off excess paper, it's okay if it's a little messy, we'll cover it up!

Brush on a thin layer of white acrylic paint, wipe off with a wet paper towel for a white washed finish.  Use Tacky Glue to attach lace ribbon trim around edge of top and bottom of box.  Allow to dry.

Brush on a layer of Collage Pauge sparkle.  Allow to dry.

Glue on some faux gems using Tacky Glue. I used my friend Kellie DeFrie's new Crystal Katana tool for easy bling application without getting sticky fingers!

Print 365 using Barbershop Font.  Cut out, attach to cardstock using Aleene's Tacky Dot Runner.  Attach cardstock to box lid with Tacky Glue.

Brush on a layer of Collage Pauge sparkle, it will dry flat, don't worry!

Glue some Lion Brand red sparkly bonbon yarn around edge of numbers and top of inside box edge using Tacky Glue. Allow to dry!  Tuck some handcrafted decoupage jewelry into your fabulous new DIY Valentine's Gift Box for a little extra added DIY awesome!
